HOOTD | Fall for Plaid

Hi all,

Zara blanket scarf 2014Plaid is quintessential during this time of year, however since I’m originally from Florida I never cared much for it until the pass two years when I would notice more and more people wearing plaid starting Fall.  Of course, that made me fall in love with plaid and while I’m still working my way toward buying more pieces for my wardrobe I thought I would start off with the ever-so-popular Zara plaid blanket scarf. Doesn’t this blanket scarf make a great accessory?

Grey maxi cardigan check scarfIn addition to the amazing plaid scarf, I’m pairing it with two other favorite items currently the maxi cardigan that I bought from Nordstrom during their anniversary sale, and the OTK boots by Franco Sarto which are dupes for the coveted 5050 boots.  This time around I knew Fall flies by in Chicago so I’ve been wearing these pieces, especially the scarf and cardigan, with several different outfits. The cardigan will definitely be staying in my closet now since it is way too cool in Chitown for any thin cardigan.

red grey outfit OTK bootIt was quite windy when we took these snaps so I’m not preggers! Maybe also bloated since it was after the halal food festival which I was disappointed in this year due to the lack of food stalls and more organization. So while I took some snaps there it isn’t enough for me to rave about, but if you would like to get an idea you can read about it in my last year’s post here.

We moved indoors for the rest of the snaps since the ones outside were hard to take with the crazy wind. Here I am admiring my boots– so comfy!

Thank you for visiting and have a great weekend!

HOOTD | Scarf Print Dress

Happy Monday everyone!

Shopping is my happy place.jpg

Did you all check out the Nordstrom Anniversary sale?

Over the weekend I wore this beautiful scarf print dress that I recently purchased from Zara. I have been looking for a pretty printed dress with length that is passed my knees. I ordered it online and loved it as soon as I put it on. The fabric is silky and even has side pocket detail.

On the same day I had a mini Mac appointment to test out their new pressed pigments. Here is my finished look. My iPhone isn’t picking up on the beautiful color of the moth pressed pigment which was applied all over my lid. Moth had a beautiful shimmer to it which showed through when layered with embark eyeshadow on the crease and plumage on the inner corner.

There are 12 shades that are part of Mac’s pressed pigment Fall 2013 collection. I think any one who loves shimmer and glitter will love adding these to their makeup arsenal. The shades moth, pink pepper and damson stood out to me and I would recommend.

Since it was date night the husband and I picked a new place to dine, Siena Tavern. From the reviews we read it sounded like a great restaurant to check out, however while I did take pictures of the food we ordered at the restaurant (and in pictures the food looks delicious) I will not be posting those on the blog because the husband and I were quite disappointed with what we ordered. I had heard the tiramisu was heavenly, while it was good we didn’t consider it great. The presentation was nice so here is a snap of the dessert.

We will not be recommending this restaurant to halal foodies or vegetarians as the menu was quite limited and not worth the expensive price tag. However, if you are looking for a nice place to hangout with friends and aren’t a halal foodie you will enjoy this restaurant.

After dinner we strolled back home and enjoyed the weather and beautiful street art.

HOOTD | Hot Pink & Navy Blue

Happy Monday everyone!

Here is an hijabi outfit of the day from my vacay! My family, friends & I did a few touristy things yesterday and visited a beautiful beach in Key Biscayne. The weather was blazing hot but we all had a great time and took some fun and memorable snaps at the beach.

My outfit of the day snaps are courtesy of my younger sister who took nice detailed shots and also a beautiful pic for the back of my favorite skant this season- I will be wearing these palazzo’s on repeat! I love the saturated colors of the top and pants and decided to pair it together which pops with the sunny, beachy backdrop. Enjoy!

Tempting Tuesday | Printed Trouser Pants

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday!

Today I’m featuring the current popular printed trouser pants. Which I consider another must piece in a modest fashionistas closet. These pants can be worn various ways, help to incorporate color/floral/design into a basic outfit, and can be used to colorblock. Most printed trouser pants have a modest fit which makes it a winner in my closet.

The following are my inspiration from high end designers. While these are for inspiration there are many affordable options (even dupes) at Zara, H&M, Forever 21, etc.

My suggestions for picking a great trouser pant would be:
1. Find a print that will go well with other pieces in your closet.
2. Look for a modest fit but not baggy.

Which design was your favorite? Would you like to see how I would style printed trousers?

Wear it Wednesday | Palazzo Pants Styled

Hello everyone!

Today I’m featuring a palazzo pant that has a unique design-a skirt! I picked up this “skant” in Zara a few weeks back. When I saw it on the hanger I wasn’t sure about it but I picked it up to try with a few other things, and as soon as I tried it in the fitting room I knew I had to have it.

The fabric of this pant is silky smooth, the palazzo style makes it very airy and comfortable, and the fact that there is a skirt in the in the back makes it so fun!

In this mood board I will show 3 ways of styling this skant, from casual for a lunch date, to dressier for a night out, and an edgier sporty take which can be great for just running errands. Lastly, there will be a picture of me wearing my new favorite pants for a casual look.
FYI, I wasn’t able to get good pictures of my look that is why I didn’t feature it as a separate post on the blog, and excuse the mess in the back we were packing and getting ready to checkout of our hotel from our Cleveland trip.

Definitely give palazzo pants a try. They are great for a modest fashionista because they are as comfortable as a maxi skirt but with wearability of a pant.

What do you think of the skant? Did you enjoy this Wednesday’s mood board styling?

Thank you for visiting!
