HOOTD | Fall for Plaid

Hi all,

Zara blanket scarf 2014Plaid is quintessential during this time of year, however since I’m originally from Florida I never cared much for it until the pass two years when I would notice more and more people wearing plaid starting Fall.  Of course, that made me fall in love with plaid and while I’m still working my way toward buying more pieces for my wardrobe I thought I would start off with the ever-so-popular Zara plaid blanket scarf. Doesn’t this blanket scarf make a great accessory?

Grey maxi cardigan check scarfIn addition to the amazing plaid scarf, I’m pairing it with two other favorite items currently the maxi cardigan that I bought from Nordstrom during their anniversary sale, and the OTK boots by Franco Sarto which are dupes for the coveted 5050 boots.  This time around I knew Fall flies by in Chicago so I’ve been wearing these pieces, especially the scarf and cardigan, with several different outfits. The cardigan will definitely be staying in my closet now since it is way too cool in Chitown for any thin cardigan.

red grey outfit OTK bootIt was quite windy when we took these snaps so I’m not preggers! Maybe also bloated since it was after the halal food festival which I was disappointed in this year due to the lack of food stalls and more organization. So while I took some snaps there it isn’t enough for me to rave about, but if you would like to get an idea you can read about it in my last year’s post here.

Franco Sarto motor otk boot

We moved indoors for the rest of the snaps since the ones outside were hard to take with the crazy wind. Here I am admiring my boots– so comfy!

Thank you for visiting and have a great weekend!

Macy’s Secret Garden Event

Happy Monday everyone,

A few weeks ago Macy’s was having their Spring time Secret Garden event, where they had a special garden beautifully set on one of the floors, and floral decor throughout the store. To celebrate the secret garden event they had several events planned, from cooking demos to art classes to fashion shows. I attended one of these events with my friend, Fatima, and it was hosted by local blogger Graham from Glossed and Found.
alt=It was a garden tea party themed event that was beautifully planned. They severed hot lavender tea, tea sandwiches, had a candy cart, models showing off Spring looks, make-up booths giving tips, a flower crown DIY station, and a beautiful backdrop made entirely of flowers where a professional photographer was snapping photos of the guests (I’m still waiting on receiving those snaps, as they were gorgeous and I didn’t take any personal ones). After the fun event we headed up to the actual garden to check out the amazing botanical display. Here are some snaps from the day.

Launch Party for Sparkle and Sophistication #SSLaunch

Hi all!

S&S jewelryLast Saturday I was invited to one of the chicest parties in town! Sparkle and Sophistication’s fabulous launch party was thrown by the beautiful local jewelry designer, Nusrat Siddiqui. Local Chicago bloggers and tastemakers were invited to style and model for the upcoming look book for the jewelry line. During the media party we all enjoyed sweets, sips, and got primped for the photo shoot. It was a great day to spend mingling with fellow fashionistas, and got inspired by how each of them styled the sparkly pieces from the Sparkle and Sophistication jewelry line.

What were my first impressions of the jewelry? I loved most of the pieces! Seeing the pieces up close you can truly appreciate the hard work and details that Nusrat has put into each piece. My favorite would have to be the My Love bracelet and The Empress necklace, both of which I styled in the pictures below. All the pieces are very well made, the claps are very user friendly, many of the pieces feature sparkly swarovski crystals, and the delicate necklaces are of quality –perfect for layering or even on their own. If you want to know more about the jewelry you can visit Sparkle & Sophistication’s FB fanpage.

Wear it Wednesday | 1 Tunic Styled 3 Ways

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Today I’m styling a white tunic that is a Summer staple. I consider it easy breezy and can be dressed up or down.

The tunic chosen has a mandarin collar and pleats on the front. This tunic is similar to the one I have on in last two HOOTD pictures (below), however I bought my tunic a few years ago from NY & Company.

|Tunic and styled outfit deets|

The first look is great for a brunch date or strolling on a beach. I paired the tunic with green linen pants and wedges. The tunic can be tucked in or left out depending on your comfort level.

The second look is great for running errands or shopping. It’s paired with skinny jeans and ballet flats. To add a pop to this outfit a colorful scarf is added.

The last look is great for a special date night or walking around a resort on vacation. This beautiful look is paired with a large sun hat that adds an elegant touch. The colors of the maxi skirt are even perfect for a 4th of July party. The tunic in this look will be worn more as a blouse where the tunic will be tucked into the maxi skirt.

Here is how I styled it a few days ago when I was out shopping and running errands. A few quick snaps from a fitting room.

Blues, Whites & Star Trek Movie Review

Happy Thursday everyone!

This will be a quick hijabi outfit of the day. I wore this outfit a few day’s ago when we went to see the new Star Trek movie, Into the Darkness, which I will KISS review in this post (I know it’s a little late but those of you waiting for the long weekend to see it then this might help.) We liked the movie, but I was confused just a tad since I’m not an avid Star Trek fan.

Fashion Show Style | Making the Look “Modest” Part II

Happy Wednesday everyone!

As promised this is part II from Macy’s American Icon’s fashion show I attended last week. If you missed part I or want to see the looks click here.

Sorry again for somewhat blurry pictures. The captions give my review and feedback on how to make the look “modest.” If you enjoy these inspirational pictures then please comment below. Enjoy!

While this looks needs a lot of adjusting to become "modest" what I love is the camo print. This look needs a longer yellow top covering the midriff and instead of camo shorts just switch out for pants.

I love the pop of yellow in this look and the tie dyed inner shirt which gives this look more unique. The only thing I would do to change this look is add shirts that are longer and jeans that are looser.

Fashion Show Style | Making the Look “Modest” Part I

Happy Monday everyone!

Last week I attended an event hosted by Macy’s which showcased the quintessential American fashion designers, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Levi’s. With Memorial day just a week away and 4th of July just a little over a month away, I thought this fashion show gave great inspiration on how to style for the upcoming holiday’s.

Following the fashion show I mingled a bit with the hosts, Daniel Musto and Anne Vincent. Daniel is the celebrity stylist for Fashion Star and Anne is Market Stylist for Vogue. I asked Daniel to help me pick out some fun tops and he enthusiastically walked around Macy’s with me to help me choose a few tops and then even give me some styling tips. While he is great at what he does and had some great pairing suggestions, I realized that it is very true that most designer and stylist get very confused when it comes to hijabi fashion styling. As we started to walk around Macy’s picking out tops I mentioned that I can wear almost any top, even sleeveless, however I would need to know what color long-sleeve tee or blazer/outerwear to pair with and at that point I got the feeling that he seemed a little confused as to what I meant. Nonetheless, he was a sweetheart and I still picked up good styling suggestions from him.

Now for the best part, I will share the looks from the fashion show and give tips on how to make each look more hijabi friendly which to me is synonymous with being ladylike.

The show featured about 26 looks for both women and men, thus I will be breaking this post into two parts. The second part will be posted on Wednesday. Read the captions on each pic for my tips (sorry in advance for somewhat blurry pic, as it was hard to capture the models on the runway.)
