ModCloth’s Uniquely You | Dinner Party Darling Dress Styled

Happy Spring everyone!

This morning in Chicago didn’t look Springish, however the weather in the afternoon improved to the sun shining brightly. Yay! Now that it’s officially Spring, it’s all about pretty, and fancy dresses. In honor of dresses, I’m bringing you a beautiful little black dress that can be worn to an evening wedding, fancy cocktail party, or a lovely date night.

Is she lovely?

Isn’t she lovely?

ModCloth recently contacted me to be part of their Uniquely You campaign on Wanelo. They sent me a snap of one piece, in this case the dinner party darling dress, and told me to add up to seven other pieces from ModCloth’s current collection to finish off my look. I felt flattered and excited that I get to put my personal spin on a classy little black dress, and make it work in a conservative look without skimping on details.

As you see from my Wanelo board (click each piece to get further details), I chose the basic long sleeve tee and opaque tights for the conservative take, then added all the special pieces and sparkle. For jewelry I chose this stunning statement necklace, classy pearl bracelet, and dainty rings. Then I added the beautiful black clutch with the lucite bow to mimic the bow detail of the dress, and to finish off the look with a pop of color the stunning turquoise peep-toe heels! Doesn’t this styled outfit make you want to go on a fancy dinner now?

If this one style wasn’t enough –check out my picks for Spring and Summer dresses from ModCloth. While looking through the collection of dresses it was so hard to choose a few to showcase.

Hope you all have a wonderful start to Spring. Stay empowered because it’s still Women’s History Month, and have you entered the giveaway? There is still time so hurry deadline is Monday 3.24.

Umair’s Sweetheart,

Ayesha

World Hijab Day Feb. 1

World hijab dayWorld Hijab Day is Feb. 1, I’m proudly representing and supporting this movement. All Muslims and non-Muslims are asked to wear a hijab for one day for “Better Awareness. Greater Understanding. Peaceful World” I couldn’t have said it any better.

“At the end of the day we are part of one big family called the human race I pray that a movement like World Hijab Day gives us an opportunity to learn to be tolerant of each other by accepting and respecting each others differences. It is only through tolerance and understanding we can coexist peacefully. “ Founder Nazma Khan

Wear it Wednesday | A little Leopard at the Art Institute of Chicago

20130911-144116.jpg

Happy Wednesday!

The husband and I visited The Art Institute of Chicago last week by taking advantage of the free admission on Thursday’s for Illinois residents. It was the first time we were visiting and weren’t aware of the massiveness of the museum. The free admission hours are from 5-8 pm, and since we arrived after 6pm we scanned around the galleries mostly. But I plan to visit their new exhibit on Impressionism, Fashion & Modernity. Enjoy our day in pictures!

IMG_1111
Hijabi outfit of the day consisted of black, red, gold details and a little leopard. I have worn these pieces separately several times but I’m always a little hesitant to wear this leopard bag because I think it’s too much animal print. But I love animal print, and do consider it a neutral so will have to incorporate more leopard in my outfits.

Of course, being silly with one of the paintings. I didn’t notice at the time but the lady in the painting is wearing red and black headscarf too!

IMG_1138

IMG_1140

IMG_1145
I was loved the fact that there were ipad’s in some of the galleries that gave detailed pictures and information about the pieces. In the bottom picture, I was amazed at how high the jousting stick really was. It was even hard to capture it in the full picture.IMG_1152IMG_1155IMG_1158
This gallery featuring armory was probably the husband’s favorite area since he said the pieces were “real” as apposed to the paintings. IMG_1161IMG_1166IMG_1170
I was in awe after seeing Claude Monet’s self-portrait as his paintings have been my favorite for many years. Especially the water lily paintings in the next few pictures.IMG_1175
Seeing the paintings up-close in person is so different than seeing it online or in a picture, you truly see the detail’s and admire the work even more. IMG_1182IMG_1184IMG_1188IMG_1190IMG_1206IMG_1216IMG_1221IMG_1228
IMG_1238
There are a lot of beautiful paintings and galleries with every type of art imaginable at the museum, and spending a whole day to admire everything The Art Institute of Chicago has to offer will be well worth the time especially if you appreciate art.IMG_1245

Vogue September Issue Brunch at Nellcote

Happy Tuesday everyone!

20130827-143137.jpg

This past weekend I caught up on fashion, and fancy brunching at Nellcote. I attended the event with Fatima from Lace, Pearls and Chocolate, whom I’ve been planning to meet for the past couple of months but couldn’t due to being out of town, Ramadan and Eid. The event was covered by Emma Arnold of Tres Awesome, where she captured the event in her signature street style photography.

We flipped through the pages of gratis Vogue September issue, while we noshed, talked fashion and watched the fashion documentary The September issue.

I’m excited for Fall fashion, and these September issue’s are completely enabling the shopper in me. I have been able to browse through the 902 pages of the Vogue issue, and out of all the amazing fashion ad’s I was most ecstatic to see a 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target lookbook inside. Now you all know where I will be September 15.

Date Night at Geja’s Cafe

Hello everyone!

20130826-152644.jpg
It’s Monday again and I have lots to share in this week’s upcoming posts.
First off, the husband and I had a romantic dinner date on Friday. We headed out to Geja’s cafe in Lincoln Park. The restaurant is essentially a fondue spot similar to The Melting Pot. Geja’s cafe is more of the locally known and loved spot for fondue. We checked out the place especially since we had a great Groupon deal for the restaurant. The restaurant is nice and we would recommend it, however having been to The Melting Pot also we don’t think it’s better. What we don’t enjoy about these fondue places is when you order an entree of meat/fish/veggies/tofu you are basically spending time cooking your own food. We definitely prefer having only cheese and chocolate fondues at these types of restaurant’s.

20130826-152745.jpg
Unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take pictures in Geja’s cafe and even if we were allowed I doubt they would be stellar since it’s one of those intimate setting restaurants with very dim lighting.

20130826-152839.jpg
Nonetheless, it was a nice evening where we ordered the specialty dinners which came with a house salad, cheese fondue, main course veggie & tofu, dessert was chocolate fondue, and we ordered a latte to finish our meal.
After dinner we strolled a bit around the Lincoln Park zoo area but had to cut the date short once the husband was called into work. Thus, the lack of more detailed snaps of the day. These pics were mostly taken by the park.

Weekend Eid Party

Hello everyone and happy Monday!

Eid Party Head Shot.jpg

My DIY’d head jewelry from a gold necklace and smokey makeup look for the night

Monday’s are always a drag because it’s sad to know the weekend is over and the work week start’s the daily routine and work grind. But hopefully this week passes quickly and we can enjoy the weekend again.

This past weekend the husband and I were invited to a family Eid party. On Thursday night we arrived at my sister-in-law’s house because we wanted to help her with decorating for the party which was held at a hall that is part of a masajid.

My sister-in-law was planning for the party for over a month for about 160 guests (including kids). The planning included party games for kids & adults along with prizes, yummy catered food, theme/decoration for the party, and much more. By the time we arrived she already had most of the supplies for decorating. Friday afternoon we helped decorate most of the party hall, except for the balloon creations and centerpieces which had to be tackled day of the party.

The husband is quite the expert with balloon decorations! While in college he worked at Celebration Balloon and created all sorts of fun balloon centerpieces and decorations. His expertise came in handy at this Eid event because the balloons definitely added more life and festivity to the room decor. If you haven’t seen these balloon creations you should definitely check out Celebration Balloon.

MashahAllah and Alhamdulillah all of the hard work payed off because all the guest’s raved about the fun interactive nature of the party, the food and decorations. It definitely was one of the best Eid parties I have attended.

As for my outfit of the day, it was an outfit I custom ordered from Pakistan and have worn once before in Florida. I changed up the look by creating a new hijab style, DIY’d a gold necklace into head jewelry/tikka, tried a smokey eye makeup look, and carried a trendy clear clutch (which I’m in love with).

This Eid party also gave the husband and I an excuse to test drive our new dslr camera, Canon EOS Rebel SL1. We are still learning the functions, but so far we love the results–let us know your thoughts since all the pictures on today’s post were taken with the new camera.

Wear it Wednesday | Maxi Scarf as a Cardigan

Hello everyone!!

madonna and me.jpg

“Who’s That Girl”?! Of course I had to take some silly snaps once I spotted these awesome records on sale this past weekend

Hope you all are having a wonderful week thus far. I’m excited to run a few errands today, but believe it or not the temperature is already dropping to 60’s! I feel like Summer just started and now we are fast approaching Fall. The season’s in Chicago have been quite strange this year since Spring almost skipped over and now Summer was hardly 3 months!

Back of scarf cardigan.jpg

Back view of the heart & leopard print maxi scarf I DIY’d to a cardigan

Today I’m featuring a maxi scarf that I have been in love with even before I bought it (mainly because of the print). How is that possible? Well the print of the scarf is quite popular since it was part of Louis Vuitton’s collection several seasons ago and I was in love then but not so much with the price tag. But with all pretty high end designer items they eventually trickle down to high street shops, and voila I found mine at A’gaci several months back (but can still be found on ebay).

side angle of DIY scarf.jpg

Side view to determine the coverage you get with this DIY cardigan

For this look you can take any maxi scarf you own and tie two knots, one from right side and one left side, to the middle of the longest side of the scarf. The scarf then will then look like it has arm holes and you can simply wear it as a cardigan. Quite easy! If you want to learn more ways to wrap your scarf in creative ways there are several YouTube videos showing the process.

Fresh henna and cardigan.jpg

Do you spot the fresh henna? This was taken before the other pics

My Wear it Wednesday look features basics with straight leg denim, a stripped top, and black scarf for hijab. This is as basic as it gets, but by using a printed scarf you can spruce up the look without it being complicated.

Celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr 1434 H

Happy Monday everyone!

20130812-112053.jpg
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and all my Muslim family & friends a great Eid weekend.

20130812-124831.jpg
The husband and I headed over to Suburbs on Wednesday night since Eid had not been declared and we figured it would be best to be ready for either Thursday or Friday Eid.

20130812-125456.jpg
At 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night Chicago Hilal committee announced Eid to be on Friday based on no moon being sighted and then literally 30 minutes later they retracted the statement saying moon was sighted in some areas and therefore Eid-ul-Fitr will be on Thursday! Alhamdulillah the joys of moon sighting. We were reminded in the Eid khutbah (sermon) that we are constantly being tested and it is only Allah(swt) who decides what is best, and in this case what day was best to celebrate Eid this year.

20130812-114236.jpg
It was a beautiful sunny day, and we spent most of the day eating and catching up with family and friends.

Wear it Wednesday | Maxi Dress & a Blouse

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Alhamdulillah it’s the middle of the week but more exciting it’s almost Eid! I say “almost” because we still don’t know if we are celebrating on Thursday or Friday, regardless we will be celebrating with family in Chicago.

In this Wear it Wednesday post I’m wearing a maxi dress I bought last year from Target and styled with a blouse for a more dressed-up-running-errands-or-sightseeing outfit. This blouse trick can easily be achieved with any maxi dress in your closet, and a button down blouse or re-style that chambray shirt for this look.

20130806-222937.jpg

The way to achieve this look is to button up halfway and then grab the two sides of the unbuttoned shirt to make a quick knot or two, then simply tuck inward the knots and back of the shirt and belt it. This outfit looks quite feminine, is very hijabi friendly and not to mention non-restricting.

Eid always brings back memories of my childhood and how my mom always made it so special by getting us new Eid clothes, matching accessories and shoes, decorating the house for family breakfast/dinner parties, eating yummy pakistani food, receiving eidi/presents from parents & relatives, and just spending the day carefree. I miss those days or more so miss my mom (May Allah [swt] grant her the highest place in paradise Ameen.)

May you all have a wonderful day & those celebrating (Thursday or Friday) Eid may it be a joyous day spent with your loved ones, with lots of yummy food and carefree relaxing fun!

Thank you for visiting!
