Hajj/Eid Mubarak Party + Little Wings Gallery Review

Happy Wednesday!
Eid dessert topper

Eid was a few weeks ago, and the husband and I decided to host a hajj mubarak party for some relatives who were able to make the blessed journey this year. Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is recommended to perform at least once in a lifetime (those who are able to financially and physically). Hajji’s (pilgrims who have performed hajj) return home several day’s after the celebration of Eid, thus the reason for my late post.
Eid Mubarak banner

For the party decor I used several items sent to me by Cherie of Little Wings Gallery.  She has a background in Design that has helped her to create beautiful contemporary Islamic decor.  The Eid decor set I was sent had a banner, a 8″x10″ print, several cupcake toppers, cupcake/dessert flags, little gift box, name tags for gifts and also buffet table labels.

Eid Mubarak print little wings gallery

I was emailed all the items to print, and after I did I just loved the pattern and colors as it is the theme I’ve been loving lately.  I was then able to set aside some time (aka commercial breaks) to cut everything out, and assembled the banner with twine.  It does take a little bit of time to complete if you are doing it alone so I would definitely make this a project with the little ones.  All the items come with easy instructions on what materials you need and  how to put it together so there is no guessing.

Cake topper, desserts and kabaa Because this was a Hajj/Eid Mubarak party, I decided to create a cake banner with the cupcake flag toppers. I took two bamboo skewers that I usually use for chicken skewers, and some twine to make this banner.  Another fun and easy idea is to make  a kabaa out of construction paper and a square tissue paper box.  I didn’t have construction paper so  I used gift wrapping tissue paper in gold and black.  It took a few minutes to make and was a big hit. If you want to take it one step further for kids you can turn this kabaa box into a sadaqah (charity) box.

I loved hosting this party and putting together my black and gold decor, and it definitely became more festive with the little decor touches from Little Wings Gallery.  Do check out their Etsy shop for more fun Islamic prints, children’s room decor, stationary and more.  If you would like something personalized you can have that done too.  And the best part? 10% of proceeds from all sales go to a Muslim’s Aid charity.

Ayesha

Review | Got Eidee? Shirt

Happy Sunday!

I love quirky fashion statements- so I was happy review this got eidee? shirt by Anika Shah on Etsy.  I ended up wearing this shirt on Eid, since it was just the husband and I this year celebrating in the middle of the week with my fractured arm.  As you can tell these snaps are several weeks old since I am wearing my arm sling.  I couldn’t make any special Eid food thus we decided to go out for brunch at Southport Cafe.

IMG_4968.JPG

My motivation for creating these fun, Eid shirts was my five year old son. He looks forward to the holiday Eid but he definitely looks more forward to receiving Eidee(s) more. We had an Eid party years ago, and these shirts were created as an Eidee (gift) along with a $5 bill to each kid. Since then, so many parents have been raving about the “got eidee?” shirts. I’ve sold them and given them away and people love the cute, catchy phrase! It’s hard living in the US and being raised Muslim especially when other holidays are greatly publicized. Eight years later, my then five year old son who is now thirteen solely created the “99 Problems but Fasting Ain’t One” Ramadan shirt. In addition to the collection, the beard shirt was born simultaneous to the hipster beard trend that is apparent nowadays. I have fun creating these shirts but enjoy seeing a fellow Muslim have fun wearing a “got eidee?” shirt. After all, you know it’s Eid until someone asks, “got eidee?” – Anika Shah

At Southport cafe we tried their bread pudding pancakes, and they were quite good but I think I prefer the ones at Meli cafe better. After brunch we walked around Wrigley Field Stadium, then Michigan ave for some window shopping– it was a relaxing day with the husband.

The shirt is great for kid’s of all ages, especially school aged. The shirt is handmade with 100% cotton, and quite soft when on. I did wash it after wearing it, and it held up to the wash with all the lettering still in place. This shirt is great to give as a gift or just to wear around after Eid namaz lounging with the family.

Moroccan Theme Eid Decor by Titli Designs

Happy Fall Friends!

blue yellow white home decor Eid

I’ve been away from blogging for most of Summer, and I missed it.  As I had mentioned in my last post, I was sick throughout Summer and then fractured my arm.  Alhamdulillah I am recovering and my arm has gotten back most of its range of motion.  Now on to sharing a wonderful Etsy Muslim shop owner, Sadaf of Titli Designs, who is completely talented especially in  creating beautiful graphic home decor prints and stationary.  Sadaf, had graciously participated in my Eid al-Fitr giveaway, but because I broke my arm I couldn’t do a full review of her products.

titli designs blue yellow eid printSadaf is a Canadian based designer, who not only specializes in these beautiful prints but also creates children’s clothing and works professionally in the medical field.  She was kind enough to send me a few items from her Morroccan Theme Eid decor line for me to review.  This set included 1. A set of six Eid greeting notecards in six lovely colours. Colours include, “Sunshine”, “Tangerine”, “True Coral”, “Peach”, “Blush”, and “Aqua”. 2. An Eid Mubarak Banner in the “Sunshine” colour. 3. An 8”x10” print “Allah is sufficient for us.” ~ Quraan 3:173 in the “Sunshine” Colour. 4. Six Cupcake Wrappers in the “Sunshine” Colour. 5. Six Cupcake Toppers in the “Sunshine” Colour.

All the items came beautifully packed and printed on quality card stock, thus there was no worry about them getting creased easily.  I was able to add these items to my existing decor, and they fit right in by adding a touch of fancy to my house.  I love to decorate for the season especially for Eid, and one of my favorite things to do is shop around my house and use things I already have.  I don’t live in a huge house, thus I don’t want to add to the clutter, therefore I used a frame I already had to place the 8 x 10″ Allah is Sufficient for us print.  Next to those I placed some of the greeting cards I was sent along with the set, however I do plan to use these to send out to family and friends.  The greeting cards are blank inside so you can add a personalized message, and they are made in quality card stock.

titli designs eid banner blue yellowThe Eid Mubarak banner is cut in scalloped shape and while it’s small in size it is perfect to add a special touch to an area without overwhelming.  I was easily able to put this up with push pins as it came assembled with a thick string.

Moroccan theme eid cupcake wrapperAren’t these scalloped cupcake wrapper and toppers just adorable?! I had made these chocolate banana muffin’s over the weekend (recipe coming soon), and thought they would look beautiful lined with the Moroccan themed wrappers.  They were quite easy to put together as all I needed was some clear tape and toothpicks.  I think they make the cupcakes all that much more festive and fancy.  For an actual Eid party you would only need a few around you dessert table to make it a little extra special.

Moroccan theme eid home decorSince Eid al-Adha is right around the corner, I will be doing a few more Eid related decor posts and also give a few of my tips on how to change up your decor easily without buying a whole lot of new items.  One of the easiest things I do is replace my throw pillows, however I mostly shop around for pillow covers rather than pillow with insert because that will just add to the clutter, and I switch up my coffee table decor.

Weekend Eid Party

Hello everyone and happy Monday!

Eid Party Head Shot.jpg

My DIY’d head jewelry from a gold necklace and smokey makeup look for the night

Monday’s are always a drag because it’s sad to know the weekend is over and the work week start’s the daily routine and work grind. But hopefully this week passes quickly and we can enjoy the weekend again.

This past weekend the husband and I were invited to a family Eid party. On Thursday night we arrived at my sister-in-law’s house because we wanted to help her with decorating for the party which was held at a hall that is part of a masajid.

My sister-in-law was planning for the party for over a month for about 160 guests (including kids). The planning included party games for kids & adults along with prizes, yummy catered food, theme/decoration for the party, and much more. By the time we arrived she already had most of the supplies for decorating. Friday afternoon we helped decorate most of the party hall, except for the balloon creations and centerpieces which had to be tackled day of the party.

The husband is quite the expert with balloon decorations! While in college he worked at Celebration Balloon and created all sorts of fun balloon centerpieces and decorations. His expertise came in handy at this Eid event because the balloons definitely added more life and festivity to the room decor. If you haven’t seen these balloon creations you should definitely check out Celebration Balloon.

MashahAllah and Alhamdulillah all of the hard work payed off because all the guest’s raved about the fun interactive nature of the party, the food and decorations. It definitely was one of the best Eid parties I have attended.

Overview of the decorated hall

As for my outfit of the day, it was an outfit I custom ordered from Pakistan and have worn once before in Florida. I changed up the look by creating a new hijab style, DIY’d a gold necklace into head jewelry/tikka, tried a smokey eye makeup look, and carried a trendy clear clutch (which I’m in love with).

This Eid party also gave the husband and I an excuse to test drive our new dslr camera, Canon EOS Rebel SL1. We are still learning the functions, but so far we love the results–let us know your thoughts since all the pictures on today’s post were taken with the new camera.

Celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr 1434 H

Happy Monday everyone!

20130812-112053.jpg
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and all my Muslim family & friends a great Eid weekend.

20130812-124831.jpg
The husband and I headed over to Suburbs on Wednesday night since Eid had not been declared and we figured it would be best to be ready for either Thursday or Friday Eid.

20130812-125456.jpg
At 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night Chicago Hilal committee announced Eid to be on Friday based on no moon being sighted and then literally 30 minutes later they retracted the statement saying moon was sighted in some areas and therefore Eid-ul-Fitr will be on Thursday! Alhamdulillah the joys of moon sighting. We were reminded in the Eid khutbah (sermon) that we are constantly being tested and it is only Allah(swt) who decides what is best, and in this case what day was best to celebrate Eid this year.

20130812-114236.jpg
It was a beautiful sunny day, and we spent most of the day eating and catching up with family and friends.

Our outfits were both from Pakistan including most of the accessories except some jewelry which were given to me as gifts.

Wear it Wednesday | Maxi Dress & a Blouse

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Alhamdulillah it’s the middle of the week but more exciting it’s almost Eid! I say “almost” because we still don’t know if we are celebrating on Thursday or Friday, regardless we will be celebrating with family in Chicago.

In this Wear it Wednesday post I’m wearing a maxi dress I bought last year from Target and styled with a blouse for a more dressed-up-running-errands-or-sightseeing outfit. This blouse trick can easily be achieved with any maxi dress in your closet, and a button down blouse or re-style that chambray shirt for this look.

20130806-222937.jpg

The way to achieve this look is to button up halfway and then grab the two sides of the unbuttoned shirt to make a quick knot or two, then simply tuck inward the knots and back of the shirt and belt it. This outfit looks quite feminine, is very hijabi friendly and not to mention non-restricting.

Eid always brings back memories of my childhood and how my mom always made it so special by getting us new Eid clothes, matching accessories and shoes, decorating the house for family breakfast/dinner parties, eating yummy pakistani food, receiving eidi/presents from parents & relatives, and just spending the day carefree. I miss those days or more so miss my mom (May Allah [swt] grant her the highest place in paradise Ameen.)

May you all have a wonderful day & those celebrating (Thursday or Friday) Eid may it be a joyous day spent with your loved ones, with lots of yummy food and carefree relaxing fun!

Thank you for visiting!
