It has been a really long time since I did any type of hijabi outfit of the day post so I thought I would share one of my favorite purchases for Fall — this beautiful fringe sweater vest. As soon as I saw it in Nordstrom I knew it had to be mine! After having the in-store tailor alter the fringe length (gratis) to fit my height I took it home, and have worn it out several times already. This fringe sweater vest has good weight to it, it’s actually quite affordable and completely on trend.
Fringe is big for this season and for the upcoming seasons in outerwear, shoes, handbags, scarves, etc. Basically, everything you can imagine but it does seem a little daunting to me on a leather jacket so I think this sweater vest has the perfect amount of fringe without being overwhelming. It is quite warm and cozy for Fall, and a lovely transition piece like I did here with my favorite Summer faux wrap maxi dress. Faux wrap maxi dresses is where it’s at! They are just so easy, comfortable, and make you look put together with just one piece.
Have a wonderful day, and thank you for visiting!

And a great Friday it is with it being National Handbag Day! Yes, it’s actually an official thing so why not celebrate by splurging (or saving) on a great handbag?! I’ve compiled some amazing options that are all under $350 but they all look more expensive than that.
I am soo loving the new Paris clutch by Rebecca Minkoff! If you have been following my fashion posts then it is no surprise I love Minkoff handbags. They are always on trend and the price point is so affordable for the quality. And the Ostwald Helgason x ALDO Rise collaboration’s lily handbag is such a beauty in the crimson color.
Which handbag do you have your eye on?
I love quirky fashion statements- so I was happy review this got eidee? shirt by Anika Shah on Etsy. I ended up wearing this shirt on Eid, since it was just the husband and I this year celebrating in the middle of the week with my fractured arm. As you can tell these snaps are several weeks old since I am wearing my arm sling. I couldn’t make any special Eid food thus we decided to go out for brunch at Southport Cafe.
My motivation for creating these fun, Eid shirts was my five year old son. He looks forward to the holiday Eid but he definitely looks more forward to receiving Eidee(s) more. We had an Eid party years ago, and these shirts were created as an Eidee (gift) along with a $5 bill to each kid. Since then, so many parents have been raving about the “got eidee?” shirts. I’ve sold them and given them away and people love the cute, catchy phrase! It’s hard living in the US and being raised Muslim especially when other holidays are greatly publicized. Eight years later, my then five year old son who is now thirteen solely created the “99 Problems but Fasting Ain’t One” Ramadan shirt. In addition to the collection, the beard shirt was born simultaneous to the hipster beard trend that is apparent nowadays. I have fun creating these shirts but enjoy seeing a fellow Muslim have fun wearing a “got eidee?” shirt. After all, you know it’s Eid until someone asks, “got eidee?” – Anika Shah
At Southport cafe we tried their bread pudding pancakes, and they were quite good but I think I prefer the ones at Meli cafe better. After brunch we walked around Wrigley Field Stadium, then Michigan ave for some window shopping– it was a relaxing day with the husband.
The shirt is great for kid’s of all ages, especially school aged. The shirt is handmade with 100% cotton, and quite soft when on. I did wash it after wearing it, and it held up to the wash with all the lettering still in place. This shirt is great to give as a gift or just to wear around after Eid namaz lounging with the family.

Happy Monday everyone,
A few weeks ago Macy’s was having their Spring time Secret Garden event, where they had a special garden beautifully set on one of the floors, and floral decor throughout the store. To celebrate the secret garden event they had several events planned, from cooking demos to art classes to fashion shows. I attended one of these events with my friend, Fatima, and it was hosted by local blogger Graham from Glossed and Found.
It was a garden tea party themed event that was beautifully planned. They severed hot lavender tea, tea sandwiches, had a candy cart, models showing off Spring looks, make-up booths giving tips, a flower crown DIY station, and a beautiful backdrop made entirely of flowers where a professional photographer was snapping photos of the guests (I’m still waiting on receiving those snaps, as they were gorgeous and I didn’t take any personal ones). After the fun event we headed up to the actual garden to check out the amazing botanical display. Here are some snaps from the day.
How gorgeous is this?! Let’s all take a moment to imagine us throwing a beautiful garden party with this decor!
The detail and thought that went in to creating this table –simply breathtaking!

Spring is finally springin’ so go out and enjoy your day!
Last Saturday I was invited to one of the chicest parties in town! Sparkle and Sophistication’s fabulous launch party was thrown by the beautiful local jewelry designer, Nusrat Siddiqui. Local Chicago bloggers and tastemakers were invited to style and model for the upcoming look book for the jewelry line. During the media party we all enjoyed sweets, sips, and got primped for the photo shoot. It was a great day to spend mingling with fellow fashionistas, and got inspired by how each of them styled the sparkly pieces from the Sparkle and Sophistication jewelry line.

With the lovely designer, Nusrat
What were my first impressions of the jewelry? I loved most of the pieces! Seeing the pieces up close you can truly appreciate the hard work and details that Nusrat has put into each piece. My favorite would have to be the My Love bracelet and The Empress necklace, both of which I styled in the pictures below. All the pieces are very well made, the claps are very user friendly, many of the pieces feature sparkly swarovski crystals, and the delicate necklaces are of quality –perfect for layering or even on their own. If you want to know more about the jewelry you can visit Sparkle & Sophistication’s FB fanpage.

Happy Spring everyone!
This morning in Chicago didn’t look Springish, however the weather in the afternoon improved to the sun shining brightly. Yay! Now that it’s officially Spring, it’s all about pretty, and fancy dresses. In honor of dresses, I’m bringing you a beautiful little black dress that can be worn to an evening wedding, fancy cocktail party, or a lovely date night.
Isn’t she lovely?
ModCloth recently contacted me to be part of their Uniquely You campaign on Wanelo. They sent me a snap of one piece, in this case the dinner party darling dress, and told me to add up to seven other pieces from ModCloth’s current collection to finish off my look. I felt flattered and excited that I get to put my personal spin on a classy little black dress, and make it work in a conservative look without skimping on details.
As you see from my Wanelo board (click each piece to get further details), I chose the basic long sleeve tee and opaque tights for the conservative take, then added all the special pieces and sparkle. For jewelry I chose this stunning statement necklace, classy pearl bracelet, and dainty rings. Then I added the beautiful black clutch with the lucite bow to mimic the bow detail of the dress, and to finish off the look with a pop of color the stunning turquoise peep-toe heels! Doesn’t this styled outfit make you want to go on a fancy dinner now?
If this one style wasn’t enough –check out my picks for Spring and Summer dresses from ModCloth. While looking through the collection of dresses it was so hard to choose a few to showcase.
Hope you all have a wonderful start to Spring. Stay empowered because it’s still Women’s History Month, and have you entered the giveaway? There is still time so hurry deadline is Monday 3.24.

Some FYI for Women’s History Month– proves why it’s important to celebrate achievements of amazing women.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending an event at Swarovski in Chicago Michigan Ave. where George Kotsiopoulous from E!’s Fashion Police was promoting his new book, Glamorous by George: The Key to Creating Movie Star Style. It was a fun event to browse Swarovski’s collection, mingle with guests while enjoying some sweets, sips, and chat with George who made his way around to guests of the events to sign his new book and take photos. George looked handsome in his suit and amazing tweed tie, of course.
When I got the chance to chat with George I asked him what key advice would he give to women styling their outfit everyday and here is what he replied,
1. wear pop of color, 2. some bling/sparkle, 3. attitude!, 4. a beautiful smile – which he told me I already had. Yay!, 5. and a great handbag –then glanced at my outfit and told me that I was already doing all. Double yay!
Ayesha, your glam jacket matches my gloves!! (referring the the cover of the book)
I’m excited to finish reading Glamorous by George over the mini school break I have coming up. If you want to upgrade your style, then check out George’s new book for practical style tips.

Happy Friday everyone!
March is Women’s History month, and March 8th is International Women’s Day–in honor of this women empowering month AnUblog will be featuring women empowering messages, and giveaways (Monday 3/10 first giveaway).
I recently attended an event hosted by Ann Taylor, and Marie Claire magazine with my friend Fatima. Own the Room was the theme of the event and had a panel featuring Marie Claire’s Director Lea Goldman, Marie Claire’s Merchandising Editor Madison Shoop, and personal finance, career expert and author Farnoosh Torabi.
The panel highlighted empowering message for women most important being women should invest in themselves & others will invest in them! Farnoosh Torabi author of When She Makes More mentioned how many women are now the breadwinners of the family, and how they are more educated because careers that are on the rise are more women driven. Lea Goldman discussed ten tips on how women can own the room, my favorite was “never underestimate the power of great accessories.” Madison Shoop shared her fashion picks from Ann Taylor and emphasized on buying separates that can work in multiple outfits. Here are some snaps from the event.

Happy Monday everyone!
Yesterday the husband and I watched the 86th annual Academy Awards. I for one love watching the red carpet live to see the dresses and all, then might watch the Oscars–this year was no different. Ellen Degeneres hosted keeping it funny like her usual self, and then we’d switch back and forth to watch the premier of The Voice.
In my opinion, all the “trending” actors & actress’ were spot on with their choice for outfits and accessories, no major blunders–accept for Jennifer Lawrence falling–once again. And a list of best dressed can be found on a million places online along with a list of winners for the night–I won’t be critiquing that.
The acceptance speeches were what blew me away. They were inspirational, genuine, and perfectly delivered. While I don’t look up to celebrities as heroes or role models, I will say they might have done a thing or two right in order to be successful and be where they are today. Here are my top favorite acceptance speech quotes from Oscar 2014 winners. Moral of the post–Believe in yourself!

When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from your dreams are valid.”

2. Matthew McConaughey | Thanked God, his family and his hero–who is himself.
My hero’s always 10 years away–I’m never going to attain that. That keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing.”

3. Cate Blanchette |
Perhaps those of us in the industry clinging to the idea that female films with women at the center are niche — they are not. Audiences want to see them, and they make money. The world is round, people!”
