Wear it Wednesday | Striped on Stripes

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Stripe on stripes have become quite popular lately especially with the black and white trend. Stripe on stripe are easy to wear as long as you vary the type and width of stripes.

On the mood board I’m featuring some current stripe pieces I’m loving and taking inspiration from. With 4th of July coming up next week stripe on stripes will be a perfect outfit choice.

HOOTD | Hot Pink & Navy Blue

Happy Monday everyone!

Here is an hijabi outfit of the day from my vacay! My family, friends & I did a few touristy things yesterday and visited a beautiful beach in Key Biscayne. The weather was blazing hot but we all had a great time and took some fun and memorable snaps at the beach.

My outfit of the day snaps are courtesy of my younger sister who took nice detailed shots and also a beautiful pic for the back of my favorite skant this season- I will be wearing these palazzo’s on repeat! I love the saturated colors of the top and pants and decided to pair it together which pops with the sunny, beachy backdrop. Enjoy!

Faithful Friday | Islam & Significance of Friday

Happy Friday/Jummah Mubarak everyone!

I haven’t been able to update regularly since I am on vacay visiting family and friends. Will be on a regular schedule once I’m back in Chicago.

Friday/Jummah is such a blessed and beautiful day. I feel personally Friday helps Muslims recharge for the week, just as Ramadan forgives our sins and helps us recharge for the year. Alhamdulillah (Thanks to Allah) Ramadan is only a few weeks away which is very exciting and during the month I will be making regular Ramadan related posts inshahAllah (God-willing.)

Friday/Jummah is significant due to many significant events that have occurred on the day. The following is a graphic stating many of these events. I do not take credit for this graphic.

20130621-114757.jpg

FYI- Al-Adha and Al-Fitr are religious holidays for Muslims, and haraam means that which is forbidden.

Any mistake or typo in this post is of my own fault and not that of Islam.
“If you want to learn Islam, go study Islam. Don’t study Muslims. Islam is perfect. Muslims are not.”

May Allah (swt) forgive mine, my family and the Muslim ummah’s sins, Ameen.

Have a blessed Friday and wonderful weekend!

Tempting Tuesday | Printed Trouser Pants

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday!

Today I’m featuring the current popular printed trouser pants. Which I consider another must piece in a modest fashionistas closet. These pants can be worn various ways, help to incorporate color/floral/design into a basic outfit, and can be used to colorblock. Most printed trouser pants have a modest fit which makes it a winner in my closet.

The following are my inspiration from high end designers. While these are for inspiration there are many affordable options (even dupes) at Zara, H&M, Forever 21, etc.

My suggestions for picking a great trouser pant would be:
1. Find a print that will go well with other pieces in your closet.
2. Look for a modest fit but not baggy.

2- Mulberry (similar here)
3- Lanvin
4- Proenza Schouler
5- Galitzine

Which design was your favorite? Would you like to see how I would style printed trousers?

HOOTD | Black, White & Pop of Pink

Happy Monday everyone!

Hope you all had a great weekend. I did my usual go on a date with the husband on Friday. We first had dinner at Maggiano’s which was quite delicious- I had balsamic glazed salmon and the husband stuck to having a pasta.

After dinner we had reserved tickets for Man of Steel- which was amazing and you can check out our review here.

The following pics are for my outfit of the evening, and of me admiring Henry Cavill.

Movie Review | Man of Steel 3D

Hi everyone!

20130615-155952.jpg

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Yesterday we checked out Man of Steel which we had been looking forward to for many months, well actually the husband had been looking forward for many months. Yet, to my surprise I loved it more than I ever expected and became smitten with Henry Cavill, the actor playing superman.

What I loved about the movie was how well the story was told and how those who are not aware of the story can catch up without feeling lost throughout the movie.

K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) Movie Review: Man of Steel 3D

AnU Overall Rating: 8.5/10
3D Experience: 8/10
Action Scenes: 8/10
Direction: 8/10
Story: 8.5/10

If you haven’t already I would highly recommend checking it out.
FYI- there is no after credits scene so don’t bother staying an extra five minutes after the movie.

Have a great Saturday!

Faithful Friday | Recitation of Surah Khaf

Jummah Mubarak/Happy Friday everyone!

As I posted on Friday last week I am doing the same this week as a reminder to myself and if it benefits someone then all the better.

One of the sunnah’s of Friday is to recite surah Khaf (The Cave). It is recommended to recite the surah early on Friday or before or after the Jummah prayer. God-willing we can all implement this in our daily lives.

Wear it Wednesday | 1 Tunic Styled 3 Ways

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Today I’m styling a white tunic that is a Summer staple. I consider it easy breezy and can be dressed up or down.

The tunic chosen has a mandarin collar and pleats on the front. This tunic is similar to the one I have on in last two HOOTD pictures (below), however I bought my tunic a few years ago from NY & Company.

|Tunic and styled outfit deets|

20130612-011707.jpg

The first look is great for a brunch date or strolling on a beach. I paired the tunic with green linen pants and wedges. The tunic can be tucked in or left out depending on your comfort level.

The second look is great for running errands or shopping. It’s paired with skinny jeans and ballet flats. To add a pop to this outfit a colorful scarf is added.

The last look is great for a special date night or walking around a resort on vacation. This beautiful look is paired with a large sun hat that adds an elegant touch. The colors of the maxi skirt are even perfect for a 4th of July party. The tunic in this look will be worn more as a blouse where the tunic will be tucked into the maxi skirt.

Here is how I styled it a few days ago when I was out shopping and running errands. A few quick snaps from a fitting room.

Tempting Tuesday | High End Ankle Strap Flat

Hello everyone!

Hope you all are having a great Tuesday.

Today on Tempting Tuesday I’m featuring the ankle strap flat. I have to be honest when I started seeing the ankle strap flat I thought to myself why all the ankle hassle? Flats are suppose to be easy slip on shoes. However I have grown to love these updated ballet flats, and I find the ankle strap detail flirty yet professional on some ballet flats that can be appropriate to wear for work and transition to after work play.

20130610-231454.jpg

These are the ones that I am coveting recently. The first two on the top row are funky and a little mod. The second two are more on trend with the black and white theme. The next two are edgier and have to be my favorite especially the rockstar Valentino which has been around for a few seasons and I still can’t get enough of. And the last two are my experimental picks. The one on the left is reminiscent of shoes from 1920’s and the one on the right a more modern take with the deep colored textured leather.

|High End Ankle Flat deets|

Top row: Pierre Hardy | Reiss
Second row: Angeline Lee | Marc Jacobs
Third row: Valentino | SW1
Forty row: Plomo | Derek Lam

Hope you enjoyed this weeks picks and these selections inspires you to pick up a flirty ankle strap ballet flat.

Which style was your favorite?

Thank you for visiting!

Faithful Friday | Sunnah of the Day

Happy Friday/Jummah Mubarak!

God-willing you have all had a great week.

This week I decided to start posting on Friday’s more so for myself and if what I share is beneficial to those reading these blog posts then I will feel blessed to have inspired even one person. I will try to keep these posts short so that we can take advantage of this blessed day. Those who are not familiar, Friday for Muslim’s is the most blessed day of the week, and it is obligatory for all Muslims to pray duhr prayer in a congregation, except for those who are sick, traveling, women and an immature boy.

In effort to keep this post concise I am going to post a graphic I found which sums up the important sunnah’s (teachings of the Prophet, peace be upon him) to remember on Friday. I do not take credit for this graphic, if someone knows please let me know.

20130607-132331.jpg

Any mistake or typo in this post is of my own fault and not that of Islam.
A relevant quote I have seen time and time again, “If you want to learn Islam, go study Islam. Don’t study Muslims. Islam is perfect. Muslims are not.”

May Allah (swt) forgive mine, my family and the Muslim ummah’s sins, Ameen.

As always, have a great weekend!
